Diversity Training

diversity training

In today’s world, “diversity” is a term that businesses and organizations use freely, usually to describe racial, ethnic, and religious differences among colleagues. To me, “diversity” is a very broad term, encompassing both the commonly acknowledged and the more subtle differences among us.

With regard to diversity training, I have three areas of interest and expertise:

Learning, style, and team type differences, and how they affect working relationships (especially regarding conflicts in ways of thinking, processing information, prioritizing tasks, working “style” and communicating with colleagues.)

•Sexual orientation and its impact on the workplace (especially conflicts related to homophobia, and issues about HIV/AIDS in the workplace.)

•Racism and its impact on working relationships (especially regarding the responsibility of white people to acknowledge our own privilege and tunnel vision, which affect job recruitment, task delegation, evaluations, promotions, and team harmony.)

Obviously, these can be very difficult and emotionally charged issues to acknowledge and discuss. Tailor-made trainings, carefully planned and facilitated, are key.
